Thinking of You (In a Strange Way)
By guest blogger Colleen Luckett
This month is National Write a Friend Month! So, on top of producing that awesome annual newsletter about how little Susie unlocked the latest physics mystery of the universe with her shoelace and a paperclip, you better save some writing time for your BFFs--preferably with good coffee in a cozy writing nook. I know the deadline for Christmas shopping is bearing down on you, though, so in this blog post, I offer a little levity with some off-the-beaten-path or interesting “thinking of you” notes you can borrow (shhh, I won’t tell!).
For those of you who have one too many gifts to buy this month, maybe you can get out of it with a little charm: “They say, it’s the thought that matters. These days, I’m thinking too much about you; does that mean I can skip the gift that’s due?” I found it over at UV Greetings.com, where they claim to design eCards and messages to help you express yourself better. You can find scores more there for all sorts of occasions! Here are a few of my favorites for Write a Friend Month:
“Nurture your minds with great thoughts. To believe in the heroic makes heroes.” ~ Benjamin Disraeli. I always think of you as the hero whose life’s challenges are no match for his determination. You will succeed despite all the hurdles.
Wishing for some good luck for you. Even half of your positivity and enthusiasm would suffice for anything as difficult as conquering the world. Thinking of you, and hoping you continue just being yourself.
I read a quote today by William Makepeace Thackeray: “There are a thousand thoughts lying within a man that he does not know till he takes up a pen to write.” So, I picked up a pen to write. I’ve been writing all sort of funny jokes involving you. Okay, I think that’s an unflattering way of saying you’re often on my mind.
For really oddball and sometimes hilarious “thinking of you” notes, check out the folks at Someecards.com. If you’re even an occasional Facebooker, you’ve probably seen some of these gems passed around: pastel-colored cards with funny messages and retro stencil drawings. Here are some good ones to get you started. (Note: make sure your recipients have a sense of humor!)
Some folks may balk about needing a special month or day to remember our loved ones, but our hectic lives sometimes make it unavoidable! So, go on with your busy self. First, get a Kup Kap from www.koffeekompanions.com to keep your tea or coffee hot while you write. Then, cozy up to your favorite brew, use some of these notes, and make your friends smile with a little “thinking of you” pick-me-up. (Still not telling where you got them!)
